瀝青路面在長期使用的過程，也是瀝青混凝土材料老化的過程。隨著各項組成材料路用性能逐漸下降，路面自然會出現(xiàn)顏色變化。

剛生產(chǎn)出的瀝青混合料，由于瀝青完全裹附于石料表面，通常整體上呈黑色，鋪筑后大粒徑骨料與細集料粘結充分，影響光的反射，所以人們在視覺感受上發(fā)烏，沒有光澤。經(jīng)過一段時間后，大粒徑骨料表面的細集料被車輪摩擦和水沖刷失去，大骨料表面變得光滑，反光效果增強，人們感覺路面烏黑油亮。再經(jīng)過一段時間之后，由于水分、氧氣、紫外線等因素會發(fā)生瀝青的老化，骨料表面瀝青被摩擦脫落，石料本身顏色顯露，加上大量灰塵聚集在路面，瀝青路面整體上看上去呈灰白色。
